Mentoring or Coaching?

Unsure of the difference? Let’s take a quick look at how my approach works in practice:

Mentoring…

…is about focusing on the individual. It’s about their long-term agenda, their goals, their dreams.

It’s about listening and understanding, encouraging and supporting. It’s about channelling energy, enhancing strengths and creating a path to achieving success.

“Andy is a mixture of friend, mentor and advisor. His advice is always well thought out, practical and applicable to whatever my situation requires. The talent of listening is all too rare and is what sets Andy apart.”

Ben Gregg – Sales Director, Complete IT Systems Ltd.

 Coaching…

…is focused much more on the short term, on specific tasks and objectives.

It’s about achievement, capability and potential. It’s about identifying stepping stones and tackling them one by one.

It’s task orientated, with success well defined and outstanding results the main goal.

“Andy helped me…to realise my goals and focus on what I wanted. He left me feeling that nothing was impossible, and that I was in control of my own future, not anyone else.”

Natalie Fulcher – Assistant Production Manager, Agora Business Publications.
